We started operating as an inter-municipal museum of recent history only after 1990; before that, we had been operating as a museum of the National Liberation War and the People’s Revolution since 1951, which could also be seen in the name (District Museum of the People’s Revolution). Despite the constant lack of space, the arrangement of buildings and premises, we are accelerating the realization of the newly outlined vision of development in all areas of work. The circle of visitors and users of the material, as well as informants and collectors, is constantly expanding. The activity of the museum is most visible in the field of presentation of material and in journalism. The basis of the presentation is the permanent exhibition ”Srečno…črne doline” in the main museum, where we combined ten classical themes with a combination of classical and ambient layout, which represent the main thread of development of all three Zasavje cities in the last two hundred years.

In addition to the permanent exhibition, the permanent art collections of Academic sculptor Stojan Batič and academic painter Leopold Hočevar, who created an extensive opus on mining and industrial landscape.
In addition to exhibitions and collections in the museum building, we also offer visitors a tour of an authentic mining apartment not far away in the mining colony and a short presentation of other colonies with bread ovens. and entrances to mine shafts.

For the politically insensitive, Čebine is still available with a memorial room of the KPS Constituent Congress and a short exhibition on political developments between the two world wars. It is also possible to see the museum collection in Hrastnik, where in addition to the puppet collection on the second floor you can see the development of education and the Second World War in the first, archaeological remains in Podkraj on the ground floor, and a photographic display of Hrastnik development.
