MINER PROMETHEUS

On the slope of Ostri vrh, where a view of most of the Trbovlje valley opens up, there is a monument to the generations of Trbovlje residents who made a living by digging ore. On a symbolic level, they were like Prometheus, who stole fire from the gods and was therefore punished, hence the name of the monument. The 8-meter-high and 10-ton statue was made by the academic sculptor Zoran Poznič from scrap iron that remained at the landfill after the mine was closed. Some pieces are over 100 years old. Miner Prometheus will also be illuminated to glow at night, and from his headlamp, a laser beam will shine towards the tower of the mine lift on Gvido, which is another monument to the mining past of the place.
