TRBOVLJE – ČEBINE – SVETA PLANINA – TRBOVLJE

Planina zima2
Planina zima2

From the valley, we go up the hill at the hospital to the hamlet of Klek. We keep to the main, paved road and continue our way to Čebine. Under the bank, southwest of the Church of the Holy Cross stands Barlič’s homestead, where the founding congress of the KPS took place in strict secrecy on the night of 17th to 18th of April 1937. The event is marked with a memorial plaque. There is a museum on the ground floor of the house, which shows the political events and the position of the working class between the two world wars. We continue to follow the main road, which in the last part turns into a paved macadam road that leads us to the destination. On Sveta Planina or the so-called Partizanski vrh (1011 m) stands the Church of the Name of Mary or the Church of Sv. Ana, which is the highest parish church in the Archdiocese of Ljubljana. A memorial plaque on the stone wall below the church, from where there is a beautiful view of Trbovlje and Kum, says that the mountain hotel Ana, built in September 1935 and burned down in April 1943, stood on this place.

From the vantage point on the ridge, which in the east falls sharply into the depths, there is a magnificent view. In the north, we see Javor, which is one of the highest peaks in the Posavje hills. Behind it, Čemšeniška planina looks to the west and Gora Oljka to the east. On this side, in the distance are Pohorje and Konjiška gora, and much closer Reška planina and Mrzlica, and with a view, we embrace many other peaks in the near and far surroundings. Below us, on one side, stretches Trbovlje, and on the other, Zagorje, two of the Zasavje valleys, where a lively history of human effort and suffering, as well as the success of labor, is hidden.
