The spirit of rebellion has always lived in the people of Trbovlje, driving technical innovators, artists and creators. Based on both, it has sprouted the seed of contemporary art, focusing on robotics, cybernetics and virtual worlds. The showcase of this new, new media direction has been the Speculum Artium festival of new media culture for more than 10 years, which brings artists, scientists and businessmen from all over the world to Trbovlje every October. With the establishment of a permanent collection of new media pieces and a laboratory for research art, it is now possible to experience, at least in part, the festival events every day of the year. Experience how to move objects or draw a picture with your mind, experience in virtual reality how everyday situations are seen by people confined to a wheelchair, observe how a 500-year-old portrait acquires your facial features.
