MONUMENT OF FIGHTING ORJUNA

Trbovlje is the birthplace of the sculptor Stojan Batič and his sculptures from the mining cycle adorn the staircase next to the cultural institution Delavski dom, while the large sculpture “Fight with Orjuna” is the place where the conflict between Orjuna and Trbovlje workers took place on 1st of June 1924. It was one of the first organized resistance against fascism in Europe and an event that marked Trbovlje so strongly that it celebrates a municipal holiday on 1st of June, and the road where the statue stands is named Street of 1st June. Batič’s sculpture shows the moment when both groups collided next to each other and the fight began. Next to the monument stands the building of the Zasavje Museum Trbovlje, which preserves and represents the past of local communities.
